2 the globe theater be a public theater with a roofless courtyard ?

  • 1 Answer :

  • The Globe Theatre was a public theatre in London during the Renaissance era. It was built in 1599 by William Shakespeare's playing company, the Lord Chamberlain's Men, on land leased from the Bishop of Winchester.
The original Globe Theatre was a circular structure with three levels of seating arranged around an open-air courtyard. The stage was located at one end of the courtyard, facing the audience. The theatre had no roof over the courtyard, so performances could only take place during daylight hours and were subject to weather conditions.
In 1613, the Globe Theatre burned down during a performance of Shakespeare's "Henry VIII." A new Globe Theatre was built on the same site the following year, but it too was destroyed by fire in 1644. A modern reconstruction of the Globe Theatre, called "Shakespeare's Globe," was opened in 1997 near the original site in London.
